KFC is running one of the clearest local-menu campaigns in East Africa this season. Kentucky Town 254, which started on 20 October and runs until 15 November, is the first East African edition of a concept that began in South Africa in 2021 and has also run in Namibia and Mauritius, according to The Star and Tech-ish. Kuku Foods East Africa, KFC's Kenyan franchisee, runs it at participating restaurants. Kenya has 48 KFC restaurants, making it KFC's second-largest African market after South Africa.
The playbook
- Localise the menu, not the brand: seven limited items, including the Colonel's Mandazi Burger, Mandazi Pops, the Kentucky Choma Burger, Samosa Crunch and Masala Fries, put Kenyan flavours inside familiar KFC formats.
- Make a receipt the ticket: buying a Kentucky Town meal at a participating restaurant unlocks the weekend pop-ups, so every visitor has already spent money.
- Move the brand into culture: a clothing range made with the Nairobi fashion house home_254, designed, produced and hand-printed in Kenya.
- Rotate the venue: pop-ups at The Junction (23 to 25 October), Galleria (30 October to 1 November), The Hub Karen (6 to 8 November) and Garden City Mall (13 to 15 November), each with VR games, a dance challenge and a photo booth.
- Borrow reach: Kenyan creators Kendi Q, the comedian Mwirigi and Wangari Kairu are promoting the campaign.

Some details are missing. KFC has not published prices for the new items or the clothing, or pop-up opening hours, Tech-ish reported. The wording points to in-store purchases, and it is unclear whether orders through the KFC app, kfc.ke, Glovo or Uber Eats count for pop-up entry, or whether one receipt covers a group. The company has not disclosed expected sales from the campaign.
