Grey, the cross-border payments company built for Africans who earn from abroad, wants to be where their salary lands, not just the pipe it passes through. Co-founder and chief executive Idorenyin Obong unveiled Paycheck at Moonshot 2026, TechCabal's conference at the National Theatre in Lagos, on 28 and 29 October, Africa Fintech Network reports. Grey was the event's headline sponsor.
Paycheck is aimed at remote workers employed by foreign companies and paid in US dollars, pounds or euros, a group that has grown fast in Nigeria as engineers, designers and support staff take jobs abroad without leaving home.
What Paycheck does
According to Grey's Paycheck page, users make Grey their salary account by sharing their Grey details with their employer, or by tagging past payments as salary if they are already paid through Grey. Once a salary arrives, Paycheck switches on:
- Salary Sorter: each month's pay is split automatically between the Grey balance, savings and an emergency fund, in proportions the user sets.
- Savings: up to 3% annual yield (APY) on the USD Pouch and the emergency fund.
- Rewards: monthly draws for a chance to win double your salary or free transfers, plus higher referral bonuses.
- Records: a history of salary payments, employer details and payday statistics.
There are limits. Grey says Paycheck is designed around qualifying salary payments from an employer, so freelancers paid by many clients may not qualify; it points them to its eligibility rules. The 3% is an "up to" rate, and the page does not say how the draws are run or how often someone wins.

Grey started in 2020 as Aboki Africa, founded by Obong and Femi Aghedo, and is best known for foreign accounts that let Africans receive dollars, pounds and euros. It says more than 3 million people use it. Earlier this year it launched Grey Business for startups and SMEs, which processed $61.4 million in its first four months, according to Grey's press page.
A salary account is a bigger prize than a transfer. The money stays, so Grey can earn on balances and learn how much a customer earns and how reliably. Africa Fintech Network says Paycheck is the start of Grey's move into credit and savings, with lending to roll out in phases after internal testing. A record of steady foreign salary is exactly what a lender wants to see.
