Tesla showed its next Roadster on Thursday: a car that drove up a ramp and stuck to it upside down, then jumped off and hovered down. The headline number is a claimed 0 to 60 mph in one second.
That figure is Tesla's own, and nobody outside Tesla has checked it. Engadget notes that the stunts were programmed.
The timeline and the price
- Production starts in 2028.
- The car was first shown in 2017.
- Reserving costs $50,000 for the base car and $250,000 for the Thrust package. The Rocket trim is invite only.
Elon Musk said the car may not move the needle on revenue. So what is it for? A very fast advertisement for the brand, and a test of how long a deposit can wait.
