Anthropic has launched Personal Finance in Claude, a feature that lets users connect their bank and card accounts and ask the assistant about their money in plain language. The company announced it on 5 November as a beta that starts rolling out this week to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US only.
Accounts connect through Plaid, the US data network that links apps to banks. Users sign in to their bank through Plaid and approve read-only access; Anthropic says Claude never asks for or sees the bank password.
What Claude can see and do
For each connected account, Claude can see the bank's name, the account's name and type, the last four digits of the account number, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions. Anthropic says it can total spending by category, such as rent and utilities or food and drink, flag duplicate charges, unexpected fees and bills that have crept up, explain terms such as APR, and build weekly spending charts, bill calendars and dashboards.
It cannot move, manage or invest money. Anthropic says the feature is not designed to give investment advice, warns that Claude can make mistakes, and tells users to check important figures with their bank. Users can unlink an account at any time.

Conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic's models; chats outside it follow the user's normal privacy settings. "Like the rest of Claude, Personal Finance has no ads or sponsored recommendations," the company says, adding that it does not offer its own credit cards, loans or savings accounts. Anthropic calls the launch a first step and says it is exploring how Claude can work alongside licensed professionals and regulated firms.
The move puts Claude level with ChatGPT. OpenAI launched a personal finance preview in May for US ChatGPT Pro subscribers, also connecting accounts through Plaid, which it said covered more than 12,000 financial institutions, TechCrunch reported at the time.
TheStak reported last month on Fynbos Money's ChatGPT and Claude connection and on Cassava's deal to resell Claude in Africa.
